Deputy Minister for European Affairs Viktorija Trajkov participated in the conference on “Fundamental Values of the EU – Facing New Challenges in the Context of Enlargement”.
The conference discussed key reforms in the areas of the rule of law, transparency and accountability, which are the basis for the successful integration of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union.
Associate Professor Dr. Trajkov participated in the second panel discussion on the topic “Managing the New EU Initiatives for the Western Balkans: Key Reforms for a Corruption-Free Future”
Special emphasis was placed on new EU initiatives aimed at strengthening institutions, improving anti-corruption mechanisms and building trust in the public sector. Through training programs, support for independent regulatory bodies and investments in digitalization, conditions are being created for societies with zero tolerance for corruption. These efforts not only accelerate the European path, but also contribute to economic development and improved living standards.
Deputy Minister Trajkov highlighted the country's efforts in these areas and stressed the importance of cooperation with the European Union, the civil society sector and international partners in approaching European standards.
The importance of Cluster 1 "Fundamental Values" was underlined, which includes chapters 23 - Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, 24 - Justice, Freedoms and Security, as well as chapters 5 - Public Procurement, 18 - Statistics and 32 - Financial Control.
In addition, the state of functioning of democratic institutions, reforms in public administration and fulfillment of economic criteria were reviewed, as key factors for successful progress towards the European Union.
