The Sector for the Preparation of the National Version of the European Union Law (acquis), as a central coordinating body, is responsible for:
- translation and coordination of the process of preparing the national version of the European Union Law (acquis);
- translation and coordination of the process of translation of the legislation of the Republic of North Macedonia and other documents of importance for the process of European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia; and
- management and coordination of the process of linguistic, expert and legal revision and proofreading of the translated legal acts of the European Union, as well as the creation and maintenance of terminological bases and glossaries.
The Sector for the Preparation of the National Version of the Law of the European Union has two departments:
1. The Department for Translation and Coordination of the Translation Process is responsible for:
- analysis of translation requests,
- preparation of a translation plan,
- preparation of documents for translation,
- delivery and coordination of the movement of documents between participants in the process of preparing the national version of the acquis, translation of legal acts of the Republic of North Macedonia and other acts of importance for the European integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia,
- updating databases,
- translation of documents of importance for the European integration process,
- preparation of instructions for regulating the entire process and the role of all participants in the process of preparing the national version of the acquis, translation of legal acts of the Republic of North Macedonia and other acts of importance for the European integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia.
2. The Revision and Terminology Department is responsible for:
- linguistic revision of translations of acts and documents,
- qualitative control and verification of translations prepared by external parties,
- harmonization of terminology and terminological consistency,
- preparation of manuals, glossaries and guidelines,
- work with terms from EU law - collection, systematization and analysis of terms from translation memories and
- creation, updating and maintenance of terminological databases, especially SDL MultiTerm.
The work of the Sector for the preparation of the national version of the law of the European Union (acquis) also includes external collaborators from the relevant ministries, state administration bodies, scientific and educational institutions (MANU, Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski", Institute of Macedonian Language), the Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia and many other participants. The sector, through practice, provides mentoring and training to students from the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski", Department of Translation and Interpretation, where they have the opportunity to learn about and practically go through the stages of preparing the national version of EU law.
The wealth of the sector lies in its diversity. Translators-philologists with knowledge and practical application of several European languages have been working in the sector for years. European Union law has so far been translated from English, as well as from French, German and Italian. For more efficient performance of tasks, the Sector uses modern computer-aided tools (CAT tools), in particular SDL TRADOS and Multiterm.
