As part of his working visit to the Republic of Moldova, the Minister for European Affairs, Orhan Murtezani, met today in Chisinau with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, in charge of European integration, Cristina Gerasimov. The focus of the conversation was on bilateral cooperation and the common ambition for progress on the path to the EU, thus strengthening ties through mutual support and cooperation.
Murtezani and Gerasimov addressed the ongoing EU accession processes of North Macedonia and Moldova, emphasizing the challenges and opportunities in harmonizing national policies with European standards. They also exchanged views on key reform priorities, especially those related to strengthening institutions, promoting good governance and fostering economic development.
Minister Murtezani underlined the importance of solidarity and strategic partnerships between candidate and aspirant countries from the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe. The interlocutors agreed that enhancing regional cooperation and exchanging good practices are key to ensuring continued progress towards EU membership. Murtezani welcomed Moldova’s proactive role in promoting European values and confirmed North Macedonia’s readiness to deepen this cooperation through concrete activities and initiatives.
The meeting was concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Governments of North Macedonia and Moldova, which lays the foundation for a regular exchange of experiences and best practices in the negotiation process with the European Union, as well as for strengthening the capacities of institutions in both countries. This cooperation will focus on areas such as European legislation, the management of EU funds and strengthening institutional efficiency, with the aim of improving the implementation of reforms and readiness for integration into the Union.
