As a significant step towards advancing North Macedonia’s European integration efforts, UNOPS is implementing the project “Support to the European Integration of North Macedonia” funded by Sweden, Switzerland and the Ministry of European Affairs and the “Knowledge for Reforms” project funded by Norway.
These two projects have helped advance preparations for accession negotiations with the EU, as the next step towards European integration. This initiative builds on the already established cooperation between UNOPS and the Ministry of European Affairs, where key roadmaps were developed to improve the country’s EU accession process following the bilateral screening.
On 6 and 7 February 2025, workshops were held in Skopje to strengthen the country’s negotiating capacities. The two-day workshops provided a platform for more than 50 representatives from key institutions within Cluster 1, including: the Ministry of European Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the General Secretariat of the Government, the Statistical Office, the State Audit Office, the Parliament, the Public Procurement Bureau and others. Representatives of these institutions had the opportunity to engage in practical activities designed to ensure coordination and ownership of the process. This initiative is an example of the ongoing commitment to continuous learning, cooperation and capacity building, for a successful EU accession journey.
