Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met today with the non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of North Macedonia based in Belgrade, Pernille Daler Kardel. The focus of the conversation was on North Macedonia's progress in the European Union integration process, as well as on regional enlargement prospects.
Minister Murtezani expressed gratitude for Denmark's continued support for the European integration process of North Macedonia and the region. The Minister and the Ambassador emphasized the importance of fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria as a key prerequisite for successful integration into the Union. The interlocutors concluded that the Copenhagen Criteria, which include stable institutions that guarantee democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights and the functioning of the market economy, represent an essential basis for our reform processes and progress towards full EU membership.
The meeting announced the visit of the Minister of European Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Marie Bjerre, in April this year. MEP Murtezani underlined that this visit will be significant for continuing the dialogue on our European dossier, especially in light of the upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU, which Denmark will take over from Poland on July 1st. The interlocutors also addressed the priorities of the Danish presidency, with a special emphasis on North Macedonia and the region, emphasizing that in the face of current geopolitical challenges, the revival of the enlargement policy in practice is an imperative and key factor for the stability and security of the region and beyond.
