Strengthening Inter-Municipal Cooperation as Part of North Macedonia’s European Agenda

Strengthening Inter-Municipal Cooperation as Part of North Macedonia’s European Agenda

An event dedicated to strengthening inter-municipal cooperation (IMC) in North Macedonia was held today, organized by the Ministry of Local Self-Government with the support of SIGMA/OECD and attended by representatives of the Government, ZELS and municipalities.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs, Bekim Sali, addressed the event, emphasizing that strong local self-government is a key precondition for successful European integration.

“Reforms do not happen only at the central level. They take place in municipalities, where citizens directly experience the impact of public policies. Strengthening inter-municipal cooperation means greater efficiency, better services, and increased capacity to absorb EU funds,” Minister Sali stated.

The event featured presentations on the activities of the Ministry of Local Self-Government aimed at strengthening IMC, as well as good practices from the region and EU Member States. A successful case study from North Macedonia was also presented.

The Government remains committed to public administration reform and strengthening local governance capacities as part of the EU accession process.
