Severna Makedonija becomes a part of SEPA: make payments faster in euros

Ministry of european affairs Ministry of european affairs

The Ministry of European Affairs welcomed the decision of the European Payment Council (ЕPC) to expand the geographical scope of the Single Payments Region in Europe (SEPA), so that Severna Macedonia yesterday became part of this important European financial zone.

CEPA membership means easier, faster and cheaper transactions for citizens and companies. EU payments will arrive faster and with lower costs, and businesses will have simplified payments in Europe. Also, membership will strengthen international trust in the financial sector of Northern Macedonia and deepen trade relations with the European Economic Area.

According to the calendar of the EPC, our financial institutions will begin to accede to SEPA in April 2025, and the operational readiness of payment service providers is predicted for October 5, 2025.

With this significant achievement, Severna Macedonia becomes part of the single European payment market, which represents another concrete step by the Government towards European economic integration and the improvement of financial services for citizens and companies. Accession to SEPA is a concrete benefit from the Growth Plan for the countries of the Western Balkans in the context of accelerated integration.
