First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Bekim Sali met with the Ambassador of Montenegro to discuss bilateral relations, the European Union accession process and opportunities to deepen institutional cooperation.
Sali welcomed Montenegro’s progress in accession negotiations and reaffirmed North Macedonia’s support for its ambition to become the next member of the European Union. He underlined that this progress sends an encouraging signal to the region and reinforces the credibility of the enlargement policy.
The meeting explored opportunities for more intensive exchanges of expertise, building on the Agreement on Cooperation in the Context of Accession to the European Union, signed in 2012. Areas of interest include coordination of accession negotiations, alignment with European legislation, public administration reform and management of European funds.
The Minister also presented North Macedonia’s priorities for implementing the Reform Agenda and the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, emphasising tangible benefits for citizens and businesses.
Sali stressed the importance of a fair, predictable and merit-based accession process, alongside regional cooperation to advance towards the shared goal of European Union membership.
