The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs, Bekim Sali, participated today in the opening of the Skopje Security Forum 2026, titled “Architects of Stability: The Security Identity of the Western Balkans”, organised by the University “St. Kliment Ohridski” – Bitola and the University of Tetova.
In his address, Minister Sali stressed that security and stability in the region cannot be taken for granted and require continuous investment in democratic institutions, the rule of law, economic development and regional cooperation.
He underlined that European integration remains the strategic orientation of the Republic of North Macedonia and one of the strongest guarantees for long-term stability, security and prosperity.
“A stable and secure Western Balkans contributes directly to a stronger and more united Europe. Today's challenges – from hybrid threats and disinformation to energy security and technological transformation – require common responses and deeper regional cooperation,” said Sali.
The Forum focused on the security identity of the Western Balkans, geopolitical challenges, great-power competition, hybrid threats, institutional resilience and the region's role within the European security architecture.
Minister Sali expressed his appreciation to the organisers and participants, emphasizing that dialogue, partnership and the exchange of expertise remain essential for building a safer and more resilient future for the region.
