Environment and climate change

Chapter 3.27 Environment and climate change is a collection of policies aimed at protecting the environment from various anthropogenic negative impacts, as well as reducing the risks of climate change, human health and biodiversity. By its very nature, the chapter is horizontal and has a significant role in shaping and implementing policies for energy and transport. It covers the following areas: horizontal legislation, air quality, waste management, water quality, nature protection, industrial pollution control, noise, forestry, chemicals, climate change and civil protection.

The focus of EU environmental policy is the European Green Deal, which aims to introduce a climate-neutral economy in the territory of the EU by 2050, through the development of clean sources of energy and green technologies, while respecting the principles of sustainable development. For the realization of the ambitious political commitments of the EU, a proposal for the Regulation for climate neutrality and an action plan for the realization of the objectives will be prepared, using the appropriate financial mechanism for the Just Transition. The EU's action plan includes the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, which will be developed and promoted in the next transition in all countries of the region, and thus the adaptation of national policies to EU policies and dynamics in this area will be inevitable.
