Judiciary and fundamental rights

Chapter 3.23 Judiciary and fundamental rights covers the areas of the judiciary, anti-corruption policy and fundamental rights.

In the field of justice, the politicians of the European Union aim to ensure the quality of justice and access to justice for citizens. The main focus of reforms in the judiciary relates to ensuring the independence, professionalism and impartiality of the judiciary. In the field of anti-corruption policy, the politicians of the European Union aim to ensure the prevention and repression of corruption at all levels.

The European principles for fundamental rights are established in the Charter for Fundamental Rights, which, with the accession to the Lisbon Agreement, is legally binding for the member countries. In this area, the EU's focus is on the fight against discrimination, racism and xenophobia, freedom of expression, protection of personal data as well as protection of vulnerable groups, such as children, women and minorities.
