Chapter 3.24 Justice, freedom and security covers the following areas: asylum, migration, visa policy, external borders, police cooperation and the fight against organized crime, judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters, the fight against terrorism, the fight against drugs, customs cooperation and the fight against euro counterfeiting.
This area represents a collection of policies aimed at ensuring security, legal protection and free movement of persons within the EU. EU policies in this area are aimed at harmonizing private international law, concluding extradition agreements between member states, as well as harmonizing policies on internal and external border control, establishing a visa-free regime, asylum policies, and police and judicial cooperation. With the removal of internal borders within the framework of the EU, the focus is on strengthened cross-border police cooperation in the context of the prevention of cross-border crime, and with it, the establishment of minimum standards.
