NEGOTIATING CHAPTER
The requirements of EU policies in Chapter 3.17 Economic and monetary policy relate to the acquis on the EU’s economic and monetary policy and represent a set of rules: independence of central banks in Member States, prohibiting direct financing of the public sector by the central banks and prohibiting privileged access of the public sector to financial institutions. Member States are expected to co-ordinate their economic policies regulated by the Stability and Growth Pact. New Member States are also committed to complying with the criteria laid down in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union in order to be able to adopt the euro in due course after accession.
