The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for European Affairs, Fatmir Besimi, PhD, today had a meeting with the newly appointed Director of the World Bank Office in the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Marco Mantovanelli.
The current support from the World Bank and our extensive strategic partnership is essential for the Republic of Macedonia, said Deputy Prime Minister Besimi, especially through the credit lines for construction of road infrastructure which improves the overall transport network and hence the competitiveness of our economy. Deputy Prime Minister Besimi has affirmed the national structure for coordination of the financing of major infrastructure projects as a common platform of the Government, EU, the World Bank and other financial institutions.
The current projects that are financed through the IPA funds and implemented in partnership with the World Bank, including in the ones in the area of rural infrastructure and rehabilitation of the damages caused by last year's floods were also discussed at the meeting.
During the conversation, Deputy Prime Minister Besimi gave a brief overview of the development of the political situation and the current economic situation in Macedonia, as well as for urgent reform priorities in the European Union accession process. Therefore he stressed the country's commitment to open collaboration with the EU in dealing with the migrant crisis and proved to be a serious partner of the EU, ready to participate in any plan or a joint effort of the Union.
Deputy Prime Minister Besimi and the Director Mr. Mantovanelli expressed their satisfaction for the opportunity for further cooperation between the World Bank and the Republic of Macedonia.
