Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of European Affairs Fatmir Besimi PhD addressed at the regular donor meeting devoted to migration and refugee crisis, in order to coordinate efforts and actions of all stakeholders in dealing with this challenge of global sizes.
The ambassadors of the EU Member States, representatives of international organisations involved in the process, and representatives of the state institutions and experts were participants at the event.
Deputy Prime Minister Besimi referred in detail to the specific activities and efforts to build the capacity needed to deal with the situation, as well as the current needs arising from daily care for refugees.
During the meeting it was stressed that Macedonia remains committed to meeting its obligations in full respect of the international rules and standards, which includes support for refugees in providing temporary shelter, rest, food, medical care, security and timely exchange of information and effective cooperation and coordination, management of migration flows by providing full registration of arrivals, enhanced border control, improving police and judicial cooperation and intensified actions against smuggling of migrants and trafficking. These activities are conducted in close cooperation between our competent institutions, FRONTEX, several EU Member States and relevant international institutions.
The new special measure of EU in 2016 is welcomed, with a budget of10 million EUR for our country, in support of the Ministry of Interior in order to improve the opportunities for border management, said Besimi.
At the end of his address, Deputy Prime Minister Besimi thanked bilateral partners on the assistance provided to our country as support to deal with the immigrant-refugee challenge, but that funds are still needed for current expenses and future needs.
