Today the Secretariat for European Affairs held the first debate of the cycle "EU Stars" on topic: "Education and youth in our country or abroad", on which debated the students from the South East European University in Skopje, where it was held. Prior to the commencement of the debate, students were addressed by Deputy Prime Minister Besimi and the Provost of the South East European University Prof. Andrew Goodspeed, who highlighted the role of debates in the development of the democratic societes.
Today"s debate aims to increase the interest and knowledge of the youth on issues and topics related to the EU. Through debates, SEA aims at providing an open forum for debate among young people aimed at encouraging critical opinions and encouraging a culture where the debate is seen as a democratic way to resolve differences of opinion.
The first pilot debate within the "EU Stars" was held in June 2015. Today, the cycle of debates with students across universities in Macedonia began with South East Europe and will continue in 2016 in order to hear the voice of youth as future European citizens.
The debate is part of the SEA project "Youth for EU".
