The second consecutive discussion within the debating cycle "EU Talks" was held at the Secretariat for European Affairs.
Topic of today's discussion was Macedonia in the European Union, perspectives and challenges. Participants in the discussion were the Ambassadors of the Member States of the European Union in the Republic of Macedonia and the Ambassador and chief of the Delegation of the EU, Aivo Orav. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Fatmir Besimi, PhD, chaired the discussion, on which also experts from the Secretariat for European Affairs participated.
The European perspective was stressed as an important priority of the Republic of Macedonia, of the Western Balkan countries, as well as for Member States of the European Union.
In this context, it was pointed out that despite the current challenges the country is facing, the focusing on the European agenda through implementation and realisation of a reform progress in the areas of rule of law, freedom of expression, political dialogue, good-neighbourly and interethnic relations is of particular importance for the country's progress and well-being of citizens.
In the upcoming period it is of great importance that the Republic of Macedonia demonstrates its democratic capacities and moves forward the supported political dialogue through open discussion.
The participants pointed out that the European Union follows the development of events in the country with great attention, concern and seriousness on a daily basis and that the recent developments may have a detrimental effect on the Progress Report.
Recommendation was addressed to all political parties and stakeholders to contribute to the welfare and future of citizens.
The EU talks organised by the Secretariat for European Affairs, through an open, professional and constructive debate between different domestic and foreign stakeholders on current topics and issues, aim to contribute to the calibration of common positions, guidelines and suggestions that can eventually lead to solutions. The next discussion is planned to take place during the current month and it shall be within the area of equality between men and women. Women leadership.
