I hope that we have capacity and courage to overcome all the challenges as soon as possible, including the unresolved name issue, and to find a mutually acceptable solution for the both sides, with the aim one day to be part of the same European family for we share the same future.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Macedonian Government in charge of European Affairs Fatmir Besimi stated this sfter the meeting with the Greek Minister of foreign affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos.
- With an honest, open approach, and a good will we can build trust and talk openly about the issues we face and the challenges we face to achieve our joint objective, stressed Besimi.
He informed that on the meeting it was discussed about the European perspective of Macedonia, the bilateral cooperation in various fields and informed that were held successful and fruitful meetings on an expert level between delegations of the two ministers for foreign affairs who discussed the important issues of the EU agenda.
- Today I recognised here a good will, hope, friendship and an honest approach to the European perspective, Besimi said, adding that the European perspective, which is our strategic objective, is an option to preserve the peace and sustainable stability.
He wished Avramopoulos successful Greek presidency of the EU in the next year and said it was "important to state that Greece is a country that promotes the so-called Agenda 2014 as a promising approach for enlargement of the EU with the Balkan countries”.
Avramopoulos said they discussed issues concerning the EU and ways to continue and deepen the cooperation in the context of the European integration and the provision of technical knowledge that is started between the two countries a long ago.
- I would like to remind you that Greece is honest in the negotiations on the name issue. We are convinced that the solving of the issue will open great perspectives for cooperation, which will be beneficial for both nations, as well as the whole region. It is important that there are temperance and restraint during the negotiations under the UN mediation, stated Avramopulos.
According to the Chief of the Greek diplomacy, these meetings are beneficial and constructive because they create a climate, an atmosphere of confidence in the relations of both countries.
