Deputy President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for European Affairs, Fatmir Besimi PhD, today had a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria in our country, Ms. Renate Kobler.
Deputy Prime Minister Besimi welcomed the support of the Republic of Austria for the enlargement policy and the accession of countries in the Union. This support was confirmed at the recent Summit of the Western Balkans held in Vienna.
During the conversation, he highlighted the key priorities and the reform of the European agenda, especially in the areas of judiciary, fight against corruption and organised crime, freedom of expression, electoral reform, fundamental rights and inter ethnic relations, as well as the area of economic criteria.
Also, Besimi stressed the importance of continuation of the political dialogue and fulfilment of the obligations arising from the Agreement of 2nd of July, Annex of 19th of June and the Protocol of 15th of July.
Regarding the current migrant situation, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the inclusion of the Western Balkans in the single EU approach towards migrant crisis is essential, since countries, including Macedonia, are transit routes for migrants and therefore need the support of the Union.
